Returned from the festive break, refreshed and ready for the new challenges and objectives 2018 offers, after a little digital detox, i'm delighted to share this short update.
For any manager or business owner, it is essential to analyse and understand their financials.
For most, spreadsheets are a thing of the past; however, a few of the financial controllers we speak to still have their departments using this method or paper-based systems.
Some love it and using a system you are comfortable with can prove to be efficient; however, sometimes it just can’t get the job done or push the business toward development and growth.
During Sage Accelerate in February there was a huge emphasis placed upon Sage listening to their customers and as such, providing them with what they really want.
At the time I was unimpressed. I thought perhaps this reactive, rather than proactive approach may stifle innovation or result in slow progress when new options came onto the market. After all, technology moves quickly.
I was wrong.

For the everyday layman a brewery is a mystical thing, one of great beauty even. We look and we wonder at the brilliance of such things; the shiny steel and copper, the wondrous odours, the free tasting and the sheer scale. Next we reminisce, considering our youthful days of alcoholic experimentation. The months that the shower was forsaken as the bath was full of home brewed beer. At the beginning a noble sacrifice, in the end a regrettable decision.
But what happens when the bath expands? When great vats appear, tea towels are replaced with filtering machines and old Strongbow bottles are transformed into huge bottling plants.
2015 has seen complete revamps of Sage 200 and Sage 50. Both of which have resulted in Sage confirming their market leading qualities in the SMB market.
However, in an unusual oversight the revamp for Sage CRM has barely been noticed or promoted. Shocking in that it is the biggest change for many a year.
When I first started looking for a job with Acuity Solutions I spent a long time researching them. Looking into their history and where they were going in the near future. All signs were hugely positive and as such I was delighted to be offered a job working with not only Sage but in a bright, friendly and customer driven business – I’m not just saying that as they pay my salary.
As families grow there is a clear difference in the cars that are parked on their drives. Noticed since little Jimmy’s arrival next door that SLK has been switched for Range Rover? This is down to pure logistics, 2 seats for a 3 person family just isn’t going to work. This is a similar situation to what businesses find with basic finance systems as they experience business growth.
The role of the CIO has changed in recent years; the IT department are now expected to drive innovation across the business. Yet, in a recent study, more than half of CIOs participating felt that technological change is happening too quickly for them to keep up. However, it’s easier than you might think.
